Professional Focus

Dr. Encouse Golden is a Board Certified Radiation Oncologist who specializes in treating tumors of the central nervous system, including primary brain and spinal tumors and tumors that have metastasized to the brain and spine. He is involved in multiple clinical trials with a focus on treating these types of tumors. He routinely uses various modalities of radiation oncology, including 3D conformal RT, intensity modulated RT (IMRT), stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT), stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS), Gamma Knife, and CyberKnife.

Dr. Encouse Golden has helped to shape the new and evolving field of radiation and immunotherapy by showing how the use of radiation may contribute to a form of tumor cell death (immunogenic cell death) that can be utilized as a personalized anti-tumor vaccine. In addition, he is the lead author on the first clinical trial showing how local radiotherapy to a tumor in combination with immunotherapy can generate immune-mediated abscopal (from Latin ab-scopus, away from the target) responses in distant, non-irradiated, sites of disease that lead to improved patient survival.
