Proton Therapy for Ocular TumorsOcular melanoma is an uncommon malignancy that can be treated with either radiation therapy or with surgical removal of the eye. At UCSF, proton therapy is the preferred method of radiation therapy for ocular melanoma. Prior to proton therapy, patients meet with one of the UCSF ophthalmologists for examination and placement of markers for radiation targeting. Patients have radiation treatment planning at UCSF and then radiation treatment in Davis at the UC Davis Proton Facility, a facility operated exclusively by the UCSF Department of Radiation Oncology.
