Meet Dr. Dong

I am inspired by my colleagues, trainees, and patients, and privileged to pursue research breakthroughs alongside some of the most talented people at UCSF, all with a shared goal of advancing cancer treatment for every patient.

Dr. Huiming Dong is an assistant professor of clinical radiation oncology at UCSF. He has a strong research interest in developing and applying advanced MRI techniques to improve radiotherapy outcomes for all patients. Particularly, he is passionate about exploring novel MRI-derived biomarkers that could enable personalized function-driven radiotherapy.

Dr. Dong completed his medical physics residency training at UCLA where he gained extensive experience in a variety of state-of-the-art treatment techniques including both x-ray/CT-guided and MR-guided radiotherapy as well as online adaptive radiotherapy. He also served as a co-investigator on the ILLUSION trial investigating motion management strategies for prostate SBRT using Varian kV triggered imaging and HyperSight CBCT. Dr. Dong earned his PhD from The Ohio State University where he developed aortic magnetic resonance elastography (MRE) to assess aneurysm stiffness and improve risk stratification for patients with abdominal aortic aneurysms. Following his doctoral studies, he pursued post-doctoral training at UCSF Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging where he was awarded a Siemens seed grant to explore novel applications of ferumoxytol on low-field MRI at 0.55T.
